Julius Cotter was born in Dublin, Ireland, but has lived most of his life between England and Spain.  His family are of Norse-Gaelic descent and are descendants of the Viking Óttar who was King of Dublin from 1142 - 1148.  

He was educated at Allhallows College, Rousden, and the University of East London. He has a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and Film Theory.


He later worked in the Michael Parkin Fine Art gallery in Belgravia, London, and then as an Assistant Director in Spain,  before turning his focus to acting in 2010.

Julius is a graduate of the Meisner Technique Program directed by Javier Galitó-Cava, and works in both English and Spanish.

During his career he has worked with directors such as Neil Jordan, Juanjo Giménez, Stacie Passon and Jaume Balagueró, and with actors such as Robert De Niro, Liam Neeson, Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore.

He recently portrayed the sociopathic drug lord, Diosdado, in the Spanish series Operación Marea Negra (Amazon Prime Video) opposite Jorge López, and worked with Joaquim de Almeida in the highly successful Netflix series Warrior Nun.

Aswell as playing characters in both Spanish and English he has also worked in German and French and is able to do a variety of different accents.


Julius is represented by Beatriz Oliete at Decara Actors in Spain.
